Summary

This was a series of redesign proposals for window signs during my contract with Advance Auto Parts, meant to showcase new methods of organizing the information. Window signs are hung at the entrance and are visible from the outside; they mainly advertise products that are being featured in current advertising.

Summary

The Blue Cedars are a folk, country, and bluegrass duo from Daleville, Virginia. This project was the package design for their debut album, Simple Times. Reflecting the title, we pursued a minimalist, type-focused cover design, over a monochrome image of a cedar tree (tying in with other visual elements they were using).

The trifold packaging allowed us to use a panoramic photo of a field near their practice space that reflected their lyric imagery. On the left panel, the lyrics for their title track are arranged, and on the right panel, the credits for the album and information about the members are shown. The panorama image is printed under the tray as well, so if the disc is not in the tray, it will keep the image complete.

Summary

I worked within visual guidelines to create a unified aesthetic for the military section of a new exhibit. Each panel details one or more air force bases in Virginia. The organization of the exhibit and the information on each panel was organized in a way that would meet the eye line of patrons of all ages.

I also designed a much larger panel for the Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport, which hangs in another section of the aviation wing of the museum. Though thematically separate from the military panels, the brand standards remain consistent.

Summary

The original seal design, featuring a dove presenting an olive branch and crossed keys inside a shield emblem, was illustrated over 30 years ago by a former Salem High School student. Because of this, there was a strong attachment to the seal.

The greatest challenge was to salvage as much of this seal as possible, and design a new color combination and type treatment that tied all the elements together. The type treatment needed to be bold and modern, but also a choice that would age gracefully and remain current into the future, as the organization continues to serve new generations of students.

Summary

On this website, I drafted the design concepts and created all graphic elements. To bring the website from concept to working product, I worked on-site at the organization with an off-site web developer, and interfaced between the developer, web hosting company, and organization. I also created a branding and style guide for the web presence, to standardize the typography and color usage.
